Há alguns anos as fishes entraram na moda, não por terem a rabeta como um rabo de peixe, mas por serem pequenas e volumosas. São pranchas de ótima flutuação e fluidez nas ondas pequenas, muitas delas quadriquilhas e algumas até biquilhas, geralmente bem paralelas e com rabetas largas.
Brinco com esse tipo de design há um bom tempo e tive algumas muito boas. Porém, apesar de terem boa remada e boas manobras, ficam muito maroleiras e apresentam limitações em ondas maiores ou mais cavadas. Por isso resolvi trabalhar em um conceito de prancha larga, grossa, pequena, mas com a rabeta estreita e fina. Chamei de “round fish performance”, buscando uma prancha que mantivesse as vantagens de uma fish, com um ataque vertical na parte cavada das ondas, como uma pranchinha de performance. Estudei quatro quilhas para ela, mas com a rabeta round é pequena, ela ficou com a velha e boa triquilha.
O lugar ideal para testá-la, é claro, foi a Indonésia. O resultado foi ainda melhor do que o esperado. Essa prancha ficou com uma remada espetacular, fez curvas perfeitas, atacou o crítico da onda como eu esperava e me surpreendeu com a facilidade de entubar.
Ficou claro que da mesma forma que quer uma prancha com bico largo para remar, quer também uma rabeta pequena para atacar as ondas com segurança e rapidez.
Assim, velhas tendências são recicladas e a 5’8 round fish performance, minha maroleira para ondas ruins, passou a ter um lugar garantido na capa em todas as minhas viagens de ondas boas, cavadas ou não.
